Poland has a potential market for Green Teas and a number of customers now move to purchase Green tea due to the health consciousness.
According to the International Tea Committee reports, Poland imports about 30000 MT of tea annually. This volume has been stable for the last 6-7 years period.
Poland is a black tea market, which accounts for 95% of the tea import volume while Green Tea remains the balance. In volume terms annual black tea imports are approximately 28,500 MT with Green Tea accounting for about 1500 MT. However, the import growth trend in the recent past has been more towards Green tea due to the health consciousness of people who believe that Green Tea is healthier than black tea. According to the Sri Lankan custom figures Sri Lanka’s exports to Poland have increased steadily during the period of 2000-2005 from US$ 12.77 Million to US $ 20 Million.

Tea continues as a dominant product in Sri Lankan exports accounting for about 60 % in 2005, there has been a tendency towards a greater diversification in recent years.
Tea imports to Poland are mainly in bulk form .It is estimated that about 88% of the tea import volume comes in bulk form.
The Multinational Unilever and many Sri Lankan companies have tea blending and packing plants in Poland. Sri Lanka, India , UK and Germany export a significant part of their tea supply to Poland in pre-packed form while the other tea producing countries supply tea mainly in bulk form. At present China and Vietnam are main suppliers for Green Tea to Poland.
